JOLTD is a hypothetical cold brew coffee brand made from high-quality, sustainably sourced arabica beans. The cold brew is pre-packaged and sold primarily online and in local grocery stores in New Orleans.
The coffee company’s key mission is to supply a deliciously smooth and bright coffee flavor to the customer in their first sip in order to get their creative juices flowing! The JOLTD brand’s bright and bold color scheme and energetic logo are meant to attract an audience of creative-minded folks who turn to strong coffee when in need of their daily energy boost.
Ideation & Sketches
I wanted the logo to have a sense of energy and movement, so I began experimenting with type in my sketchbook. I decided that a condensed typeface would be best to use in order to convey urgency and vibrancy. I created a mood board to get a visual idea of what illustration style and color themes I should use. I based my creative direction on the design trends of The Memphis Group, an Italian design union from the 1980s.
I designed two different directions I could take with the logo and label design and presented them to my peers, who told me I should consider combining the logo on the first design with the illustrations on the second design.
I moved to my iPad to digitally sketch the packaging design and experiment with color combinations.
