Instructed to fill in these five blanks and create a typographic poster about the statement, I wrote "I am small but won't take shit."
Instructed to fill in these five blanks and create a typographic poster about the statement, I wrote "I am small but won't take shit."
This statement reflects my experience of having a non-binary gender identity. I often feel small and unseen when I am in public due to my naturally small body size, and I hate feeling so powerless. To counter my feelings of discomfort in public, I tell myself this phrase to remind myself that I am powerful for simply existing and loving myself.

DESIGN CHALLENGE:
Create a typographic poster around the text "I Am _ _ _ _ _" and any body text of your choice that relates to this statement.
typography
I wanted to choose a typeface that could condense and expand drastically to create strong contrast within my posters. The typeface Fit was perfect for this in that it had options varying from Extra Condensed to Extended.
color
I chose a very simple but bold color palette for this project so that my posters would stand out from far away and draw the viewer closer in to read the body text.
graphic elements
The first graphic element I developed was the wavy line background pattern seen in the first poster. This pattern was meant to make the bold type stand out and create a sense of movement throughout the poster.
The second graphic element I created was this line divider which seems to be a collection of random shapes. The divider was actually made by cropping the top of the letterforms from my phrase "I am small but won't take shit".
